Raphael MANIRAKIZA

Raphael Manirakiza is a Guest Lecturer and Research Assistant with the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Sydney. He is also a Community Engagement Worker for Community Migrant Resource Centre (CMRC) and is currently volunteering for many charities and initiatives including Sydney Peace Prize Foundation, Together for Humanity, Initiative of Change (IofC); Alternative to Violence Program (AVP), etc.

He has worked previously in international, government and not-for-profit organisations. Raphael also has a political background from his native country of Burundi where he was Executive Committee member and Spokesperson for the Party for National Restoration (PARENA). He has also attended the Burundi Peace Talks in Arusha, Tanzania between 1999 and 2000. His experience and interest in global development and peace led him to working for German AgroAction as a Consultant in Uganda, for the Ministry against HIV/AIDS as Director-General in Burundi, and for the Belgian cooperation as a Health Expert responsible for health donors’ co-ordination. Raphael is a clinical psychologist with a Postgrad in Human Rights and Conflict Resolution from the UNESCO Chair in Peace Education and Conflict Resolution, University of Burundi.
